The town of Mt. Airy

Mount Airy, NC 27030
The Town of Mt. Airy, North Carolina Andy Griffith's Hometown, Mt. Airy, was the inspiration for Mayberry. The town is very dog friendly. We had such a wonderful experience here. Many stores on Main Street allow dogs to go inside. Go to the Visitors Center first on Main Street to pick up a map of all the Andy Griffith sites. Our Boston Terrier, Odette, was able to go inside! She also enjoyed herself inside the souvenir shops and in the antique stores, getting attention from the store clerks and shop owners. Many of the businesses have water bowls outside their doors. A big beautiful ceramic one is on the patio of the Old North State Winery restaurant. We enjoyed tasty sandwiches there while Odette rested at our feet and ate her dinner, too. There is a resting area, with umbrella tables, & chairs & public restrooms across the street from Floyd's Barber Shop & Snappy's Lunch Counter. We went to Wally's Service Station & courthouse and Odette was allowed inside both of these
